Changes

The past few weeks have seen a lot of changes at Karova. We’ve said goodbye to 2 colleagues, both of whom have been here for a long time and will be greatly missed.

Phil has decided to move back home to Ireland, and who can blame him. I’d choose Dublin over Shotton any day.

Jay has decided to bite the bullet and do what most of us only dream about while we’re sat in the office. He has packed in everything and is off traveling the world, though not all of it, just the Australia bit.

Life at Karova will not be the same without Phil and Jay. It takes me much longer to do anything without having Phil to help me debug my code, but then I get more done without having Jay telling us his latest conspiracy theory. 2 absolutely top blokes that I have had the pleasure of working with and winning money off at our poker tournaments. Good luck guys.

We’ve also welcomed 2 new people, Debs, who I’ve had the pleasure of working with previously in SecureTrading and is absolutely great. I’m glad she has decided to join us here at Karova, and Sam (another Sam), who is a developer with a lot of experience. So welcome Debs and Sam to our Karova family. We hope that you love it here as much as the rest of us do

I nearly spat orange juice from my nostrils reading this! hahaaa :D

Indeed, Phil and Jay shall be greatly missed. And Debs and Sam The Second seem like Karova sorta people. Yay!

  2. Jay Says:

Haha. I’ve said on a number occasions now Sam, I don’t do Conspiracy Theories. The definition of theory, as used in context of the compound noun ‘Conspiracy Theory’, is something taken to be true without proof, and as you know there’s always plenty of proof :P

  3. Matt Wilcox Says:

“proof”, as understood in the story above, meaning “ideas I have determined to be true based upon speculation, heresay, and non-scientific non-emperical evidence”

;) (just providing that saber dude)

  4. Jay Says:

That’s your objective opinion of my meaning of proof. Proof, a fact or circumstance that gives logical support to an assertion, claim, or proposal.

    Neh neh ne neh neh

This bickering is just like you’ve never gone Jay :-)
The thing about theories and proof is that everything is theory unless proven 100%, without any ambiguity, and is anything in life ever 100%?
Gravity is a theory. We all stick to the Earth which seems like pretty good proof to me, but it still remains a theory. It is the most likely reasoning based on the proof to hand.
The fact that some things are a theory makes them more flexible, in that when more evidence comes up, you can always modify the theory

I’d choose Beirut over Shotton, possibly.

I remember having all day long debates with Jay in the office over his 9/11 theories. Unfortunately, Jay’s idea of ‘proof’ was usually a GeoCities website written by some fruitcake, with articles like ‘We Prove Bush Is An Alien’ and ‘U.S. Government Spys On You In The Bath Using TapCams’. :)

  7. Jay Says:

Hey… we all know that’s a much more credible source than the BBC.

  8. Philip Roche Says:

You small minded people. My estate in Shotton is a lovely area, houses topping £270k, you wouldn’t find that in Beirut.

Thanks for the comments sam. My new job is completely different to Karova. I’ll be learning a shit load. From senior developer to effective junior engineer. I’m also seemingly CSS expert so I’ll be trying to recall everything Matt ever told me about CSS.

There’s nice areas in Rhyl as well, with big expensive houses that cost loads of money, doesn’t mean I would ever want to live there though. Anyone who knows the place knows what I’m talking about. There, again I live in Old Colwyn, so I’m not one to talk

  10. Matt Wilcox Says:

Phil, most of what I said regarding CSS was “Damn it, did I ever mention I hate Internet Explorer?!” Not sure how useful that will be to you, but good luck!
